EUC Basketball 2023 concluded in Aveiro

The European Universities Championship in Basketball has finally concluded on 30 of July with an exciting Closing Ceremony at Aristides Hall, one of the main venues of the event. 

Over 400 participants from 20 Universities from 12 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.

The entire championship was wrapped up with good energy, strong competition, anticipating and competitive matches and lots of fun. 

In men’s finals, the title of champion was defended again by the University of Bologna (ITA) after winning an anticipating and thrilling final match against Vytautas Magnus University (LTU). This win brought the 4th medal from EUSA Basketball Championships to University of Bologna. The bronze medal went in the hands of University of Sevilla (ESP) after successful win over University of Wurzburg (GER).

In women’s finals, the title of champion was conquered by University of Vienna (AUT) after playing a strong and anticipating match against University of Pitesti (ROU). The bronze medals were shining on the necks of the players from University of Bologna after a well-played match against Polytechnic University of Madrid (ESP). 

The medals and awards were presented by the Pro-Rector of the University of Aveiro, Mr. Manuel Senos Matias, EUSA Representative, Mr. Manuel Veloso, FADU Representative, Mr Rui Sousa, the President of the Organizing Comittee, Mr. Wilson Carmo and EUSA Technical Delegate for Basketball Mr Peter George. 

The EUSA plaquette of appreciation was given to the representative of the volunteers as a sign of gratitute for their hard work and time given at the Championship.

Final standings:
Men competition:

1) University of Bologna (ITA)
2) Vytautas Magnus University (LTU)
3) University of Sevilla (ESP)

Women competition:

1) University of Vienna (AUT)
2) University of Pitesti (ROU)
3) University of Bologna (ITA)

In the women’s competition, the Fair-Play award was given to Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NOR), while the MVP award was given to Ghizila Ioana from University of Pitesti (ROU). 

Concerning to the men’s competition, the Fair Play award went in the hands of University of Minho (POR), while the MVP award was given to Constantin Ebert from University of Wurzburg (GER).

The EUSA flag was passed to the team manager of CUS Bologna, Mr Gioacchino Chiappelli as the next edition of the European Universities Basketball Championship will take place in Bologna, Italy from July 6-13 where all teams are warmly welcomed to join!
